Thank you for reading and sharing. We think it's really imp to get these stories out because right now we do not even know what is the tree cover we have lost in the last few years, not just in Chitrakoot, but across India. We do not have enough research and monitoring on this, what is a hashtag going to do.
Days like ‘World Environment Day’ often offer the aftertaste of hopelessness — extreme weather events are going to continue to rage with increasing intensity in our worsening climate.
When you search #OnlyOneEarth on Twitter, it’s full of courtesy tweets by politicians and corporates riding along the wave of another hashtag for fame.
While the hashtag #OnlyOneEarth can hold impact in reframing and reclaiming the erasure of a planet through glorified space travel narratives, it continues to be a branding exercise on mainstream social media.
What about stories on how lives are at risk right now from “irregular rainfall, increasing hail storms, and changes in weather patterns” as detailed by Chitrakoot here: https://www.pixstory.com/story/climate-change-is-impacting-livelihoods-of-those-who-depend-on-forests1654414271/104917
What’s in a hashtag that continues to amplify those who already have a platform at the cost of other stories lost?
