Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday informed that the Railway Board has recommended that the Odisha train accident case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further inquiry. He also said that the Up Main Line (towards Chennai), the Down Main line (towards Howrah) at Bahanaga Bazar, the site of the train accident, have been now repaired. The death toll in Friday’s train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district where two trains– Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express and Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express– derailed, rose to 275, while more than 1,000 people were injured. Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a probe into the train accident.
