Over 3,000 gifts for Shri Ram from Sitaji's birthplace in Janakpur (Nepal) reached Ayodhya on Saturday.
More than a thousand baskets and buckets containing different gifts, including silver shoes, ornaments and clothes, were handed over to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust by Ram Roshan Das, the priest of Ram Janki temple in Janakpur region of Nepal, as reported by TOI.
The yatra, originating from the Janakpur Dham Ramjanaki Temple in Nepal, arrived at Karsevakpuram on Saturday with a convoy of approximately three dozen vehicles. Among the participants were over 500 devotees of Ram Lalla's 'in-laws', who brought along more than 3000 gifts, encompassing fruits, sweets, gold, silver, and other items.
The bulk of gifts that travelled over 500km to reach Ayodhya from the Himalayan country include dry fruits and traditional sweets of the region. They were received by Ram Mandir Trust general secretary Champat Rai.
Rai said that the relationship between Nepal and India has been going on since Treta Yug. The gifts coming from the region of Nepal will be distributed among the devotees as prasad.
Ayodhya mayor Mahant Girish Pati Tripathi said, "We, Ayodhya residents, always hold great respect for the people of Janakpur as they are relatives of Mata Janaki."
In December, the temple town had celebrated the wedding of Ram and Sita with fervour. The Ram Vivah Utsav saw baraat procession taken out from various monasteries and temples with fanfare and music and later the wedding was performed with Vedic rituals.
According to mythological belief, Ram and Sita were married on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Marga Shirpa month in Treta Yug. Since then, the date has been celebrated as 'Vivah Tithi Panchami'. A ceremony is also held in Janakpur on the occasion.
