Pakistan Women Miss Out on Daily Allowances at Training Camp
During their current training camp in Multan, Pakistan’s women’s cricket team has not received daily allowances, which contrasts with past practices and the policies for the men’s team. The camp, which began on September 1, is a preparatory phase for the team’s upcoming T20I series against South Africa.
Traditionally, the women’s team was provided with modest daily allowances at such camps. However, this time, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has opted to provide accommodation and three daily meals instead, leading to a departure from previous practices. The PCB's official policy indicates that if these basic needs are covered, daily allowances are not provided.
In contrast, the men’s team continues to receive daily allowances even if accommodation and meals are provided. This discrepancy has led to disappointment among the women players, who feel that being away from home warrants additional compensation beyond just food and lodging.
The situation occurs amidst significant PCB expenditure on infrastructure upgrades and other cricketing ventures. The ongoing Champions One-Day Cup and the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025 have also seen large financial outlays. Despite these investments, the PCB has yet to finalize or announce revisions to the central contracts for both the women’s and men’s teams.
