Both the great Singers collaborated on an iconic Composition in movie Baiju Bawra; ‘Aaj Gawaat Mann Mora.’ The song sequence has Tansen and Baiju Bawra competing to prove who is the best with the loser being punished with death.
Originally Mohd Rafi, a great Singer in his own right, was asked to sing in competition with Ustad Amir Khan but Rafi refused saying that Ustad Amir Khan was a greater Singer. Then Producers requested Pandit DV Paluskar, but Ustad Amir Khan had certain misgivings about his losing to anyone. The Director finally convinced him that Tansen, Who was the singer in the movie for whom Ustad Amir Khan was Singing, did not lose but deliberately broke the string of his Tanpura in acknowledging that Baiju was a Great Singer. Pandit DV Paluskar sang for Baiju Bawra in the Movie.
