Pathaan (2023)
Review of the movie as available on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube
The Yash Raj Films or YRF as it's popularly called, recently announced its plans to expand the scope of the various spy films it has made over the past few years and make a cumulative Spyverse, something along the lines of Marvel's MCU, Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The latest installment as a part of said Spyverse was Pathaan. This movie was touted as Shah Rukh Khan's comeback venture after a somewhat long hiatus from films. The King of Bollywood is back was announced, but the actual movie was, to put it rather lightly, pretty meh.
Pathaan essentially features SRK playing the role of Pathaan, an orphan who ultimately became a RAW agent. He has never met a foe as interesting or competing as Jim, aka John Abraham, who employs members of various spy agencies from across the globe who feel that they've been wronged by their respective countries. One of them is Rubina, who is a former ISI agent.
This is a movie, which you can understand and enjoy only when you shut all logical gates to your brain. The storyline was good, but the final fight really left a lot to be desired. As someone in the movie remarks, "Colonel sir, aapka ISI to RAW agents ka dating site ban gya hai." which genuinely made me chuckle and laugh. The only redeeming quality about the movie for me was it's music, with both Jhoome Jo Pathaan and Besharam Rang being brilliant songs. Overall, this movie is just for John Abraham, Deepika or SRK fans. That's it.
