Pema Tsering Dhenmatsang was sworn in as the new settlement officer of Darjeeling replacing the outgoing settlement officer Phuntsok Topgyal.

The two-day official handover ceremony was held between the outgoing and the new settlement officers on 16-17 August in the presence of an official witness, TSO Karma Gelek from Kalimpong.

On 16 August, the two exchanged official documents as part of the handing-over ceremony. In the afternoon, the new settlement officer met with the construction committee at the Manjushree Center of Tibetan Culture.

On 17 August, both the outgoing and the new settlement officers addressed the gathering comprised of representatives of governmental and civil society groups including members of the Tibetan community in Darjeeling.
