Lazarus comes back to life in the Bible. Similar to this, the speaker of Plath's poem transcends both her personal and cultural oppressors and her issues. Despite the fact that many people might only consider the poem's morbid aspects, "Lady Lazarus" is a celebration of what it means to be a modern woman.
The speaker in Plath's poem defeats death, just like Lazarus did. However, Lady Lazarus outperforms the biblical Lazarus in that she survives multiple types of death, including physical death, political death, domestic death, etc.
