Player Profile: Jonas Wind

Over the past several seasons, we've witnessed a number of young Scandinavian strikers make an impression in Europe's top five divisions, from Erling Haaland to Alexander Isak. Jonas Wind, who is 21 years old and is destined to be a significant player for the Danish national team this decade, might very well be the next player to appear on that list.

The younger player ever to receive the club's Youth Player of the Year title, Jonas Wind, the son of former goalie Per Wind, started his career with Avedre Sports Association before switching to Rosenhj Boldklub.

He rapidly caught Copenhagen's interest, the biggest club in the country, and enrolled in the FCK School of Excellence in 2012.

Before signing his first professional contract on his 19th birthday, Wind maintained his impressive play at the young level for club and country, netting eight goals in nine matches for Denmark's u-19 team. Two weeks later, he made his professional debut by joining the game against Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Europa League as a substitute. He received the renowned "Granen" award, presented to the club's top emerging prospect, on April 26, 2018.

Over the following two seasons, Wind made 49 appearances and scored 19 goals and 10 assists, including a goal in extra time to defeat Brndby in a derby and a Panenka penalty kick against Red Star Belgrade.

The biggest enigma about Wind may be his long-term health. He has missed a total of 57 games over the past four seasons due to three different injuries. Most of these injuries are to his knees, and if they persist, he will significantly lose the explosiveness that makes him such a dangerous forward.

Jonas Wind has what it takes to become the attacking talisman to lead the next generation of Danish talent as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. He was linked to Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray last summer, but he kept performing at this rate and got a move to German side Wolfsburg. At 23 years old he is ready for the upcoming World Cup.
