PM Modi Encourages Record Indian Contingent for Paris Paralympics 2024
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted with India’s largest-ever Paralympic contingent set to compete in Paris 2024. The contingent includes 84 athletes across 12 sports, such as archery, athletics, badminton, and more. The interaction, held via video call, also featured Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
Mandaviya highlighted the athletes' determination, noting that 50% of them are first-time Paralympians. He expressed confidence in their ability to bring glory to the nation, just as they did with 19 medals in the Tokyo Paralympics and 111 in the 2022 Asian Para Games.
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics saw India send 54 athletes, while Paris 2024 will feature 84 participants, including 32 women. India will also debut in three new sports: para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo. The games, beginning August 28, promise to be a showcase of India's para-athletic talent.
