At a high-level meeting on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed the country's Covid-19 situation. After reviewing the coronavirus situation and urging people to adopt Covid-appropriate conduct, including using masks in crowded settings and getting immunised, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya called the meeting the following day.

In light of the rise in cases, random sample testing will be conducted at airports for travellers arriving from China and other nations, according to official sources.

In response to the Christmas and New Year celebrations, states are asked to make sure that people wear masks, use hand sanitizers, and keep social distance in addition to raising awareness for preventative measures, Mandaviya said in a statement to the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
