PM Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Keir Starmer over the phone and congratulated him on assuming office as the Prime Minister of Britain and the victory of the Labor Party. The two leaders discussed further deepening the historic India-UK relations and strategic partnership. PM Modi and his British counterpart agreed to work towards the early completion of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Prime Minister Modi also invited him to visit India soon. Appreciating the positive contribution of the Indian community to the social, economic and political development of Britain, the two leaders agreed to promote people-to-people relations. Both sides agreed to stay in touch in the future. With the victory in the recent general election, the Labor Party has returned to power after 14 years. It won a majority by winning 412 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons. The Conservative Party led by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak got only 118 seats.
