Local Sustainability Week (LSW) Calabar, was sponsored by Sustainability Week International and supported by the POP (Protect Our Planet) Movement under the mentorship of Patrick Senn, who supported us with his time, energy and resources. LSW took place from the 19-23 and 27, April 2021 and was held at the University of Calabar, Nigeria. The event was organized by a group of students at the University of Calabar led by POP Mentor, Samuel C. Okorie. It featured activities like a symposium, exhibition, advocacy visit, tour, green hangout, sanitation โLeave No Dirt Behindโ, distribution of waste bins and baskets at offices and lecture venues, and an Earth Day celebration. The event also featured the presence of some distinguished personalities like the Vice Chancellor of the institution, The two deputy Vice Chancellors (DVC Administration and DVC Academics), the Registrar of the University, Director of Physical planning of the University, the University Media and Information Unit, Deans of Faculty of the Institution, Professors, Head of Departments (HOD) Security officers of the institution and the students. LSW Calabar, led by POP Mentor, Samuel C. Okorie was conducted with the major goal of promoting climate action and sustainability through climate education.
(In this report series, POP Movement intends to present its past activities to showcase the growing acknowledgement and positive response that the environmental crisis has had among youth, government leaders, and other stakeholders across geographies in recent years. We believe that this presents hope for this decade of action.)
