On May 5, 2021, the POP Nigeria team visited Hon. Edeoga Chijioke, Commissioner for Environment, Enugu, Nigeria. During the meeting, the Hon. Commissioner shared their strategy on reducing single-use plastics in Nigeria, and on building and strengthening structures to address plastic pollution and waste management.
The commissioner further spoke about the need to establish a recycling company in the state. He said that plastic pollution has been a major challenge that has caused a lot of harm, especially during the rainy season.
He also said that the state had placed laws that prohibit indiscriminate waste disposal. He added that there is a need for climate and environmental education; for this to be possible, the Ministries of Environment and Education had to collaborate and work together.

(In this report series, POP Movement intends to present its past activities to showcase the growing acknowledgement and positive response that the environmental crisis has had among youth, government leaders, and other stakeholders across geographies in recent years. We believe that this presents hope for this decade of action.)
