We eliminated inflammatory grains completely from his diet and soon, all the parameters that were high either came within normal range or close to it. he lost 7 kg over four months and his aches and pains resolved. he got his normal life back.
The ‘Sendha Namak’ Case
Mrs M., a forty-four-year-old architect, consulted the clinic for a range of issues. she was not obese (bMI was 24) and her diet was conventionally balanced, low-cal and low-carb.
Presenting Symptoms;
• Vitiligo (for nine years)
• low-grade fever, water retention, with swelling on face, hands and feet
• had irregular periods; bloating and gas in the last year and recent acne
• sometimes she would just choke
• The key clue: as long as she consumed sendha namak (rock salt), she was fine. but if she ate regular salt, her hands, face and body would swell up. she was so sure about the association that she carried her own salt everywhere.
To the diet detective, this was the key clue that helped solve her case. It revealed she had a severe magnesium deficiency (rock salt contains many minerals, including magnesium). her bloodwork showed as much, plus very low vitamin d and critically low vitamin b12 levels. her Crp and pancreatic enzyme lipase were slightly elevated, which indicated inflammation. Clearly, gluten sensitivity and a leaky gut had created this deficiency. The elimination of inflammatory grains and the addition of magnesium supplements immediately began reducing the swelling; her fever and bloodwork became normal. More important, her skin began to re-pigment itself, reducing the vitiligo patches. since going gluten-free was so essential for her, her mother did the same to emotionally support her. her improvement was so life-changing that she began giving talks about it in industry fora.
The Case of the ‘Otherwise Thin’ lady;
Mrs G., just over forty, was tall at five feet eight. but she had an exceptionally large belly, a bMI of 28.5 and weighed 86 kg.
Presenting Symptoms
• low appetite, a low-cal diet but unable to lose weight
