she felt better overall and normal sleep patterns were established. she’d had to leave her studies but her improved health made it possible for her to complete her education and begin working. The change completely transformed her life. she was down to only the epilepsy pill and off the cocktail of seven other drugs she was on.
The Case of the Arthritic Patient
Ms s. was not overweight (56 kg and a bMI of 23) but she suffered a lot of pain in her joints and was an emotional eater. she came in order to lose just a few kilos. she was on Folifrax for the arthritis but still complained of pain.
Presenting Symptoms;
rheumatoid arthritis, with severe joint pain, in spite of drug therapy. Blood tests revealed her ra factor was 123, which is a high positive. among other inflammatory markers, her calprotectin was 72, which should have been less than 50. her haemoglobin was normal but ferritin levels were low. lipoprotein a, which is a risk factor for developing heart disease, was high too, at 84.5. When I told her that I was more interested in treating her arthritis, she said her doctor had told her she would have to be on lifelong medication for this autoimmune disorder. after I put her on a gluten-free, anti-inflammatory modified grain diet, her ra factor came down to 11 and then even to 8.8 in time. other inflammatory markers also normalized. lipoprotein is a marker that cannot be manipulated through treatment, but in those who go gluten-free, it comes down, and hers reached normal levels too. she was pain-free, though, on a trip to singapore, she had sushi with soya sauce—and the pain came right back. she removed it from her diet and felt better soon. When she approached menopause, she began having digestive issues. We then suggested she remove dairy and she was restored to her former health. her quality of life was transformed and her pill burden was reduced to a fraction.
