I feel that the Indian Royals of Modern period are not getting the recognition they deserve. Especially, the princesses and queens. These queens were so ahead and modern for their time, they are iconic.
Another iconic Indian Princess was Princess Niloufer Hanimsultan, the ‘Kohinoor of Hyderabad’.
Princess Niloufer Hanimsultan (1916-1989) was a member of the Ottoman dynasty and the royal family of Hyderabad, India. She was born in Istanbul, Turkey, and married Prince Moazzam Jah, the grandson of
the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, in 1931.
The Nizam of Hyderabad was one of the wealthiest men in the world at the time, and his family was known for their opulent lifestyle and patronage of the arts.
During the WWII, she took training as a nurse to serve the soldiers.
Princess Niloufer was renowned for her beauty and elegance, and she was an accomplished writer and poet. She was also a patron of the arts and supported many cultural institutions in Hyderabad, including the Osmania University and the All India Radio. In addition, she was a fashion icon and was known for
her exquisite sense of style, which combined traditional Indian and Western elements.
During her lifetime, Princess Niloufer witnessed the end of the Nizam’s rule in Hyderabad and the integration of the state into the newly independent India. She continued to live in Hyderabad after the
integration and was active in social and cultural circles until her death in 1989. She was widely regarded as one of the most influential and glamorous women of her time.
