Despite the sun showing up on Tuesday, there was no relief from the cold weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of severe cold in the coming days.
It has also reduced its fog alert from “red” to “orange” category. While sharing the information, IMD officials said that the density of fog from “very dense” (0-50m) turned into “dense” fog (50m-200m) which was why they revised the alert in the region from “red” to “orange”.
The IMD predicted partly cloudy sky with moderate to dense fog and severe cold for the coming three days starting Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature recorded in the city was 14.8 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature in the city was 9 degrees Celsius.
Sun shone for two hours while moderate fog was observed in the morning hours, which dispersed soon. However, cold wave gripped the city in the evening, giving a tough time to the residents. People were also seen sitting besides bonfires along the roads throughout the day to keep themselves warm during this bone-chilling weather.
Cops were also found advising commuters to use reflective tapes, turn fog lights on and drive on low beam light during fog and rainy weather in order to ensure safety. The police warned people against parking their vehicles on highways during fog as it can cause accidents.
The administration also appealed to people sleeping on the footpaths and under flyovers to use night shelters, which are warm with heater provided inside them.
