Guwahati commuters face an ordeal when parking their vehicles due to the city's ongoing reconstruction and de-siltation work.
The B Barooah Road, from the front of Landmark Hotel to the underneath Ulubari Flyover, is one of the worst hit areas.
While walking on this stretch, one could only find debris and dust with wooden planks placed as makeshift culverts.
Because of the non-stop de-siltation and footpath construction work, most of the entry and exit points of the office buildings in this area have been dismantled. These have aggravated the parking woes of the employees of the different offices in the area.
Speaking to G Plus, a person who works at a local office in the area said, "There was no intimation given to us before the ongoing construction and maintenance work undertaken by the concerned authorities."
"There is no proper space to park the fleet of two-wheelers used by my colleagues and me for daily commuting to work," he added.
Another commuter narrating the parking woes along this stretch said, "This is a private alleyway leading up to people's residences wherein we are compelled to park our two-wheelers. It is quite cumbersome for us as well as the residents."
Another commuter said, "Being an employee, we aren't supposed to sit at home but rather attend work, even if that means commuting from afar. In such a given circumstance, the owner of the households along this alleyway wouldn't want us to park our vehicles."
With no option left to take their vehicles, especially two-wheelers, to their designated parking spaces in the office basement, they park their vehicles at Nehru Stadium premises or in an alleyway nearby.
Now, this alleyway being a private road, the sudden parking of several two-wheelers has made it worse for the residents.
