Raitila is a Rajasthani word which means made of sand.
Raitila Rajasthan is a mix of musicians from two well known communities of musicians, Manganiyar and Langa of western Rajasthan. This project was created to promote the authentic folk music of western Rajasthan by Bluecity Wall in 2016 and it's a curation of Govind Singh Bhati well known Music expert from Rajasthan.
The Band is working on learning some of the oldest compositions from their communities and contemporizing them without losing their essence. The result is a sound that is more instantly relatable for younger audiences yet at same time it has something to impress the older generation too.
Raitila’s music celebrates changing seasons, birth, life, nature and Sufism. Band believes that the music has a deep connection with the lives of the people in the Thar Desert of India and it intends to maintain that connection of sand in its tunes, melodies, songs and their repertoire has been passed on to them through generations.
Band features a range of traditional instruments including ancient and very rarely seen Algoza (Double flute) and Sindhi Sarangi and sings in Rajasthani and Sufi.
