Rajesh says bridges for Divar, Vanxim need of the hour
PANAJI: Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Tuesday demanded the construction of bridges connecting the island of Divar with Old Goa and with the smaller island of Vanxim as he said the villagers were suffering from the lack of a bridge.
Speaking during the general discussion on the budget, Faldessai said that while he was grateful for the help rendered so far, several bridges in his constituency were either lacking or in need of repair.
โOld Goa to Divar Bridge and Divar to Vanxim bridge is very necessary because the people of Vanxim feel the need for it and are moving out because the ferry service is not available or reliable. But the chief Minister has promised that it will be done. My constituency is 50% islands. We do not get ferry services properly. He has given us a new ferry, but it is not operating on time,โ he said.
โWe have been demanding RO RO ferry, the proposal for which is stuck in finance for the last three months. At least until the bridge we can use it, because the lack of a bridge is a huge problem,โ he added.
โThe Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 3-crore for the Cumbarjua bridge but it has to be done as soon as possible because the bridge at the moment has a hole and anything can happen at any moment so it needs to be done urgently. Similarly the St Estevam bridge needs attention because they have no other option; the ferry is also not regular,โ he said.
Faldessai also raised the issue of the flooding of the fields due to the breach of the bunds, the execution of a new pipeline for water supply to the constituency, the beautification of the Carambolim lake which he said has the potential to create 200 jobs, a railway overbridge for the Dauji crossing and expediting the works for the beautification of Old Goa ahead of the Exposition.
