Ranveer Singh's 83 makes Kapil & Co's 1983 World Cup triumph transcend generations

My father was in mid thirties when Kapil & Co made the entire country proud by lifting the 1983 World Cup in Lord's. 

Their generation have seen the 1983 glory closely. The grand reception by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, President Giani Zail Singh and the hordes politicians & bollywood celebraties meeting them made the World CUP winning team larger than life. 

The World Cup triumph changed the cricket scenario of the country forever. 

Cricket has turned into a religion in the country, more viewership and than the IPL (Indian Premier League) became a money spinner for the Gentleman' game -- now, Everyone's game. Women cricket too has started getting a prominence.

When it comes to our generation, we have master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, whose era completely dominated the cricket, and with new stars coming after a couple of years, the memories of the 1983 World Cup team started fading. 

Our generation was largely introduced to the legend team through the evolution of social media. 

It’s no surprise that my seven year old son knows the entire 1983 World Cup team. Thanks to Ranveer Singh's starrer '83'. The movie on the historic World Cup triumph introduced the legends to the current generation and even to a generation before, who were born in eighties and after.

The '83' movie has transcend generations about India's cricketing glory and how the sport has grown leaps and bounds --- From a cricket star getting a meager daily stipend of 12 pounds to earning a contract worth crore.

Now, cricket is a big money spinner, but in India, it is more than a game. It is a religion.
