As someone who listens to Taylor Swift and is a huge pop/ K-pop fan in general, I don’t agree with your statement one bit.
First of all, I just don’t understand how you are going to call people out for listening to Arctic Monkeys and The Neighbourhood, and then mention Hozier…? That just screams hypocrisy. Lol.
Anyway, I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions when it comes to music, art, and other creative fields. Moreover, those are the kinds of debates I would gladly participate in.
However, for you to discredit the artists of today’s time, calling their music “mambo jambo” and “monstrosity” is something I just cannot get behind.
So here I go. As much as you’re entitled to your opinion, so is everybody else. Plus, not everyone likes listening to the same two chords repeat throughout the song.
What might seem like a “perfect” song to you could be perceived as the complete opposite by others. Then again, no two people can have exactly the same opinion on everything.
If you like classical music or songs with profound meaning, then listen to them. If someone wishes to be “quirky” and (according to you,) their definition of doing so is listening to globally well-loved bands (…makes no sense but ok), then alright. Trust me, no one is stopping anyone.
Music is an escape for most people from their mundane, exhausting lives. One should not care whether they gravitate towards “bland” themes like “love” or “existential crises” (which, by the way, are universal topics — and why most songs revolve around them)… let them do so in peace.
