Teaching religious education means making students aware of the religious ideas that exist, and by this, non-religious groups will feel socially excluded and discriminated.
As children know less about the conflicts outside, they'll be easily influenced by whatever is being told to them in that case, someone who is out of the religious group will feel neglected, which will instead make them more confused.
Despite the lingering diversity, they'll think about why their parents chose a certain one.
In my opinion, religious studies shouldn't be a subject at all; it can be a moral study if you really want to instil some moral values and advocate diverse thoughts.
