I'll be honest, l'm still a little afraid of Retinoids, so if you are too.. no biggie!
The key is to understand the basics and listen to your skin along the way! Ultimately, learning how to correctly use this much feared (and misused) ingredient could potentially keep your skin looking younger for longer!
1 Start Low - Use the lowest concentration you can find to start with and gradually work your way up. Start by applying it once a week and work up to alternate days, giving your skin time to recover in between.
2 Sandwich - Apply it in between two layers of moisturizer to protect your skin from irritation and dryness.
3 Don't Mix - Skip any other potentially irritating actives like AHAS and BHAs on the days you're using retinol.
4 Bone Dry - Never apply retinol on wet or even damp skin. It increases penetration which is a no-go for such a strong ingredient.
5 Sun Scream - Yes, skipping sunscreen will make you scream from skin damage. So never skip SPF, it's non negotiable!
