The FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 has begun in the Indian state of Odisha's Rourkela and Bhubaneswar. The World Cup has been the preeminent hockey competition and has had a great deal of respect and notoriety since it started in 1971. India has participated in every World Cup since 1971 and is hosting the tournament for the second time in a row. The Men in Blue have participated in all 14 World Cup competitions to date, although they have only achieved one victory, in 1975 which is the only gold medal to date. The International Hockey Federation hosts the Men's FIH Hockey World Cup, an international field hockey competition.. Every four years, it takes place to fill the gap left by the Summer Olympics. With four tournament victories, Pakistan is the most successful squad. Germany has won two titles, the Netherlands has won three, and Australia has won three. India and Belgium have each won the competition once.
When they go to the field soon, the eight-time Olympic gold medalists will be trying to recover some of their lost glory and snap a 48-year drought in winning the FIH Hockey World Cup.
As previously stated, India has only won the FIH Hockey World Cup once. They won the 1975 Hockey World Cup, which was place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In the final, the Men in Blue upset neighbours and arch-rivals Pakistan to win the trophy and became Hockey World Champions for the first time. India were matched against Pakistan in a high-voltage final at the Merdeka Football Stadium in Kuala Lumpur after a 3-2 triumph over hosts Malaysia. Pakistan had grabbed an early lead through Muhammad Zaid Sheikh, but Surjit Singh scored in the final of the Hockey World Cup for the second time in a row to restore parity.
