During the first Test match between Australia and West Indies, it has been reported that former Australia Test captain Ricky Ponting was taken to a hospital in Perth.
Ponting's coworkers, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph, have said that he is stable but went to the hospital as a preventative measure to have his heart checked after feeling unwell.
IE reported that on day three of the first Test, around lunchtime, he was taken to the hospital and was subsequently unable to commentate in the following session.
“Ricky Ponting is unwell and will not be providing commentary for the remainder of today’s coverage,” a Channel 7 spokesperson was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.
“Australia’s team doctor, Leigh Golding, drove Ponting to hospital to be examined after the 47-year-old complained of feeling dizzy,” Sydney Morning Herald said in a report.
Rod Marsh and Shane Warne, two Australian baseball greats, died this year. Dean Jones, another Australian batter, died of a heart attack in September 2020.
