It is the end of Roberto Martinez's time in charge of the Belgian National Team. Following the Red Devils' elimination at the hands of Croatia, Martinez announced that he is stepping down as Belgium's head coach.
Having taken over the reigns in August 2016, the Spaniard oversaw 80 matches as Belgium's coach. His record was 56-13-11. He also led Belgium to three major tournaments, including this World Cup. Under his guidance, Martinez also brought Belgium to top of the FIFA World Rankings, staying there for nearly two and a half years.
In his first major tournament with the Red Devils, he led them to third place in Russia, the country's best ever finish at a World Cup. They lost in the semifinals to eventual champions France.
In his second tournament, the former Swansea, Wigan, and Everton manager took Belgium to the quarterfinals, ultimately going down to Italy, who also went all the way.
In Qatar, Belgium scored just one goal courtesy of Michy Batshuayi against Canada. That was their only victory of the tournament, as they would go on to lose 2-0 to Morocco and drew 0-0 with Croatia.
Martinez also brought Belgium to fourth place in the second UEFA Nations League finals, losing to eventual winners France in the semifinals and to hosts Italy in the third place playoff.
As coach of the European side, Martinez largely stuck to a 3-4-3. The team being seen as the 'golden generation' with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Eden Hazard, among others.
There were talks of Martinez possibly extending his contract with Belgium ahead of the 2022 World Cup, but that is now no longer the case.
As for what comes next for the 49-year-old, it is up in the air. There were thoughts that he could become the next Anderlecht coach, though that is no longer going to happen as the Brussels club brought in former Brentford assistant coach Brian Riemer earlier today.
There were also talks of him returning to former team Everton before the World Cup. Whether that transpires remains to be seen.
