Indian captain Rohit Sharma made history on his comeback to the India T20I team after a long gap of 14 months during the first t20I of the three-match series between India and Afghanistan on Thursday (January 11) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali.
Leading India for the first time in the shortest format since the humilating 10-wicket defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup against England, Rohit captained India to a six-wicket victory as they took a 1-0 lead in the last series they will play in the shortest format before the 2022 T20 World Cup 2024.
The return was not as memorable with the bat for Rohit, as he was dismissed for a two-ball duck.
After a mix-up with Shubman Gill, the Indian captain was run-out in the first over of their run-chase. Earlier, India had won the toss, chosen to bowl first, and restricted Afghanistan to 158.
Rohit Sharma wrote his name in the history books by becoming the first male player in history to be part of 100 victories in the shortest format of the game. Rohit is at the top of the list, which has Pakistani star Shoaib Malik and Virat Kohli at second and third in the list.
Rohit is the most capped player in the history of T20I cricket, having played a total of 149 matches in the format.
