Rohit Sharma is the captain team India is too lucky to have.
He set a massive world record during the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final between India and England on Thursday (July 27) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana after he walked out to open the batting for the Men in Blue following Jos Buttler's decision to bowl first on winning the toss in a rain-hit game.
He continued his dream run of form following a stunning knock of 92 in 41 balls in the final Super 8 stage against Australia in St. Lucia on Monday.
He was a total beast in the ground, a complete package 💪🏻💙
Rohit broke Mahela Jayawardene's record for the most fours hit by any batter in the history of the competition, with 113 boundaries to his name. Jayawardene held the record for a long period of time, having hit 111 fours in his career for Sri Lanka in the history of the T20 World Cup.
In the last year, Rohit has led India to the final of three ICC events - the World Test Championship in June 2023, the 50-overs World Cup in November and now this.
This is India's best chance to win a World Cup, but it doesn't get better than what lies ahead. It's only fitting that the two unbeaten teams in the tournament go on to play the T20 World Cup final. But for India, there is and may not be a better opportunity to end a decade-long agonizing wait.
Under Rohit, India have lost just two World Cup/Championship games out of the last 18. And in this while, the captain has led from the front, setting an example for everyone in the team. This is the same guy who took it upon himself to change the way India play their T20 cricket.
Gone were the cautious and watchful approach and in came a brand-new template with Rohit, he batted with that template at the 50-overs World Cup and almost made India go the distance. Few months down the line, nothing changed as Rohit continues to be the embodiment of this new Indian T20I set-up.
What a man 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
