Once upon a time in a far away world there lived a beautiful princess and she awaited long for her fair prince to come and swoop her away from her imprisonment. This is the norm for a majority of fairytales or stories that we have read as children.
We are obsessed with the royals , princesses and princes and would watch without a question on TV anything related to them. It’s been decades since we moved away from absolute monarchy, majority of the nations have accepted democracy as the new norm yet we still are obsessed with royalty.
We may prefer to watch them and read their stories as we are living our fantasies through their lives. They have what we don’t have and can only dream of having and when Megan Markle and Prince Harry created a stir by leaving the royal family and with their interview we all stayed glued to our phones, wanting to know more. Their wedding itself piqued the interest of the world. Local rented out their properties and hotel rooms sold out as thousands took to the streets to catch a glimpse of them.
Despite monarchy being an archaic institution they still enjoy the limelight. The British monarchy is one of the longest reigning monarchy and about 68% of Brits believe that monarchy is good for the nation and about 62% believe that we will still have a royal family in the future. To many monarchy represents order, discipline, stability and a sort of calmness and this could probably be the reason why we still admire and adore them despite years of progression and struggle.
