Saka wins YPOTY & Arsenal have 4 nominees in PFA TOTY in the Premier League TOTY
A truly devastating outcome to the 22/23 season for the Gunners shouldn’t and can’t overshadow the quality which they have in their armoury, currently and going forward (yes, pun intended).
Tonight, that quality was reminded if that was necessary, with The Arsenal having 4 players in the PFA team of the year; goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, young defender William Saliba at left back, midfielder Martin Ødegaard, and 21 year old Bukayo Saka, who won the young player of the year award.
A tremendous achievement for Bukayo, who joins Jack Wilshere in 2010/11 and Cesc Fabregas in 2007/8 as the most recent young player of the year winners for Arsenal.
At just twenty one, Ealing’s star boy who registered 24 goal/ assists last season in the league with numerous clutch moments such as the penalty winner vs Liverpool, has the world at his feet, and so do his compatriots;
Aaron Ramsdale. A fantastic 1 on 1 saver, and general keeper, at just 25 years of age, and all the adversity which existed when the former Bournemouth & Sheffield United man switched to North London, it’s fantastic to see him get his due praise by fellow professionals, and on a general scale.
William Saliba. The Frenchman’s absence with a back injury came at the expense of a Premier League title. But for a debut season in the Premier League, at just 22, he was magnificent, and he continues to light up the world stage. An incredibly exciting trajectory for his future in red and white & France.
Martin Ødegaard. Last, but *not* least. Captain fantastic, the Norwegian superstar scored 15 goals for the Gunners last season, including sweeping strikes vs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
A magnificent player who continues to lead the team by example.
Tonight is just a good reminder and a huge congratulations to the 4 (and rest of the team of course) for where the future lies, and the quality this squad possesses.
