Sanjay Gupta on Bollywood Film Re-Releases: “Theatres Are in Desperate Times”

Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has voiced concerns about the recent trend of re-releasing films in theatres. In a recent interview, he pointed out that this is largely due to a lack of new material. Gupta, currently promoting *Visfot*, said, “We are in desperate times because theatres have no material. Exhibitors are trying everything.”

Despite this surge in re-releases, Gupta believes they haven’t had a significant impact on box office returns, stating that the younger audience is now only catching up on older films, with little brand loyalty compared to iconic movies like *Sholay*.

Gupta also explained why *Visfot*, a crime thriller, opted for an OTT release instead of theatres, despite being made for the big screen. The film, starring Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, was always meant for digital platforms, streaming on JioCinema from September 6.
