This movie was freaky from start to finish
Seven (SE7EN) is a detective neo-noir psychological thriller, it is directed by David Fincher and written by Andrew Kevin Walker. Brad Pitt stars as detective David Mills and he partners with Morgan Freeman who plays the role of retiring detective William Somerset. In the movie they are trying to track down a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins from the bible as an allegory for his murders. The conflict in the movie is about morality. It is a classic conflict between right and wrong; good vs evil; crime vs punishment.
With the progression of the plot, we see the different murder victims and how they are murdered in the manner of their sin. An obese man has been made to eat too much due to his stomach being ruptured, this represents the sin of gluttony. A criminal lawyer is killed after a he cuts exactly a pound of his flesh this represents greed. Further along the detectives are able to find the killers apartment and there they find that these murders have been meticulously planned. They even almost catch him but he is able to run away.
He’s named as John Doe by the detectives. After killing with the motif of sloth, lust and pride. He comes into the police station and confesses to his crimes. He says he’ll show the bodies of the other victims only if Mills and Somerset take him to the location otherwise, he’ll plead for insanity in court. In the ride he talks about how he feels no remorse for the murders and feels like he’s been given responsibility by a higher power to commit these murders. He even goes on the say that he’ll be am martyr when he dies.
Upon reaching the destination, a courier arrives and Somerset sees what is in it. John Doe implies to Mills that it is Mills’ wife’s head and John Doe represent the sin of envy. John Doe provokes Mills and Mills shoots him: Mills represents the sin of wrath.
The movie in a twisted way in a commentary on morality, extremism in religion and blind faith.
