The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) said on Monday that hotels and restaurants are no longer permitted to automatically or by default assess service costs on meal bills, and that customers will be able to register complaints in case of a breach.
No hotel or restaurant may automatically or by default include a service charge in the bill. The CCPA's standards stated that service fees should never be collected under any other names.
In this regard, the Union's consumer affairs, food, and public distribution departments released a statement.
The consumer panel ruled that establishments like as hotels and restaurants must disclose to patrons that service fees are discretionary, voluntary, and up to their (customers') decision.
