Australia clinched a sensational victory against India in the ICC World Cup final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, Shashi Tharoor, a keen cricket observer, made insightful observations on the key factors that contributed to Australia’s triumph.
Shashi Tharoor pointed out that Australia made crucial decisions that played a pivotal role in their success. “A few observations. Australia got all the important things right today,” he remarked.
"Today the better team on the day won. Congratulations Australia on a well-deserved victory," Tharoor said on X.
"And cheer up, India. You won ten matches in a row and were unquestionably the best team in the tournament — till today. Nothing to be ashamed of," he further added.
Point of out the observation of India vs Australia final, Tharoor said, "A few observations. Australia got all the important things right today:
They won the toss and chose to chase.
They read the pitch better than India did. Three spinners bowled for Australia; only two did for India.
Their team selection was spot on. The decision to stick with Labuschagne instead of heeding the many experts who urged them to replace him with Stoinis turned out to be decisive.
Their fielding was intense and error-free. The commitment of every player to saving runs on the field was wholly admirable.
The bowlers were accurate and unsparing, with practically no loose or “hit-me” deliveries.
Travis Head proved yet again, just as he dud in the final of the World Test Championship, that he is a batsman for the big occasion. He didn’t put a foot wrong, bided his time and accelerated at the right moment. It was a match-winning innings.
Pat Cummins got everything right as Captain. Every one of his bowling changes (and there were many) worked, either in taking a wicket or in stifling the Indian batsmen. His field placings were unbelievably accurate in curbing the Indians.
And the Australians never wavered in their focus, confidence or self-belief. They proved worthy winners."
