Sher Mandal situated inside the Purana Qila in Delhi is said to be an observatory and a library, probably built by Sher Shah Suri in the 1540s.

The building is a two-story octagonal structure crowned with a pillared and domed pavilion made of red sandstone and it is believed that it was used as a personal observatory and library by the Mughal emperor Humayun when he recaptured the fort after reclaiming the throne in 1555 by defeating the Sur dynasty.

After six months, he died in 1556 due to his fall from the staircase of this library.
