On 17th September 2021 was the 143rd Birthday anniversary of one of the greatest socialist reformers of all time, EV Ramasamy aka Periyar.
On this day, we also celebrate THE SOCIAL JUSTICE DAY!

Like Ambedkar and Jyotiba Phule, Periyar's ideology was centered around the annihilation of the oppressive religion - Hinduism, and of the system of castes that is carried forward by endogamy. He furthur distinctly elaborated that the abolishment of the system of castes and the oppresive structures can take place only by the annihilation of the nation state. Along with being a leader of the marginalised, he was also a staunch feminist who was firmly against all the oppressive structures supporting brahmanical patriarchy, be it the institution of marriage, motherhood, customs, rituals, and tradition.

Today, we see his legacy alive in Tamil Nadu. The state has been able to break free from the cultural appropriation relevant in the North due to the exploitative Hindutva forces.
His legacy is still very much relevant today and for the ages to come!
