It seems an irresponsible social media post has again created trouble in Maharashtra’s Akola leading to death of a person, say news reports.

Two groups clashed over an offensive social media post, which allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of one group.

The violent mob threw stones, set fire to vehicles and caused widespread chaos in the old city of Hariharpeth.

One person was killed and 10 were injured, including a policeman and a lady police constable.

Police have detained 27 people and registered three separate cases of rioting. The district administration imposed Section 144 of Cr PC in some troubled areas of the city indefinitely to control the situation.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. Local MLAs and leaders from political parties visited the area and appealed for peace and harmony.
