The BJP is set to make substantive changes in its West Bengal unit following its drubbing in the just-concluded assembly elections.
The central BJP leadership is expected to go for a complete overhaul of its organisation and fix the accountability of its defeat.
That means state chief Dilip Ghosh and in-charge general secretary Kailash Vijaywargiya are likely to be replaced.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had led the party campaign from the front and both had expected a big win for the BJP.
But that didn't happen. The Trinamool Congress retained power with a stupendous performance, a win that surprised even the political pundits as some of them had predicted a handsome victory for the BJP while others had claimed there could be a hung assembly.
After the defeat, knives are out for both Ghosh and Vijaywargiya.
A section in the BJP blamed the central leadership for giving a green signal to the exodus in the Trinamool Congress, and then fielding the turncoats.
But another section insisted that the BJP has done exceedingly well given that it had just two seats in the 2016 assembly elections and now it is the main opposition party in the state with 77 seats with the Congress and the Left having failed to open their accounts, perhaps for the first time.
Also, they refer to the defeat of Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram. She was defeated by her one-time aide and protege and now her bete noire Suvendu Adhikari.
Having said that, the hype surrounding the BJP's poll strategy and it's aggressive campaigning had pitched the party as the sure-shot winner.
Political analysts have pointed out to the stoic silence of Amit Shah after the defeat. He has not spoken a word after the results.
But they are of the view that the Trinamool Congress will not have it easy in the next elections given that the BJP has strengthened its presence across the state.
The BJP's further push now depends on the revival efforts of the Left parties and the Congress. If they do so, then BJP is in for tough times.
