Starbucks India has come under fire from the infamous boycott club in India due to their new advertisement that takes a pro-LGBTQ stance. The coffee brand is the latest victim of a trend where brands taking a woke stance receive trolling and hate on online platforms.
The advertisement features the story of acceptance and love of a transgender person and her parents. However, a certain section of society has not received this story of acceptance and love well. To them, inclusivity seems anti-national or unjust.
Now, the brand may take down the advertisement and go into damage control, which could make this lobby more powerful and effective. I hope that the brand continues to run the ad so that others may not have to follow the same fate in the future.
What is interesting is that Starbucks is owned by Tata in India, owner of another brand 'Tanishq' that came under scrutiny from the boycott club a few years back for running an Ad which showed interfaith marriages in India.
