Sumit Antil defends Paralympics gold with record-breaking throw.
India's javelin sensation Sumit Antil made it back-to-back gold medals at the Paralympics with a stunning performance on Monday, September 2 in Paris. Sumit, who came into the contest as a hot favourite, delivered on his promise and clinched the gold with a record-breaking performance. The Indian went on to break his own Paralympics record twice during the course of his 6 throws and looked to be in perfect form from the get-go.
Sumit had hit 68.55 m in Tokyo to win the gold medal and set a new Paralympics record. That would be shattered by Sumit with his very first attempt as he was ecstatic after nailing 69.11 m and take the lead in the contest on Monday. But the joy was set to be doubled as the javelin sensation hit 70.59 m to break his own record once again and extend the lead from the rest of the pack.
The third throw from Antil was 66.66 m and the fourth one wasn't counted as it was a false throw. Sumit would produce another stunning throw in the 5th one as he hit 69.04 m to more or less ensure that he was going to be the one walking home with the gold.
