Syed Kirmani made his Test debut in 1976 against New Zealand. And then a word record equaliser..
And during the second Test, he equaled the world record for most victims in a Test innings as a wicketkeeper with six dismissals. And in the ODI's, he equaled the then-world record of five dismissals during a 1983 World Cup game against Zimbabwe. During his international career of 88 Tests and 49 ODI's, he claimed 234 dismissals behind the stumps.
Apart from that, he was a reliable lower-order batsman with two Test centuries. Top-scoring for India during the 1977 New Zealand series with 305 runs at an average of 65.33 is one of his career highlights. Further, when Kapil Dev broke the world record for highest individual score in ODI's at the time with his 1983 World Cup innings of 175, he was on the other end, holding the fort, allowing Kapil to play freely. Together, the pair added 126 runs for the ninth wicket.
