The Taliban govemment of Afghanistan has urged India to invest in infrastructure projects in the landlocked country to generate jobs and educate its citizens, which could help the economy to boost.
The statement came after the Taliban's Head of Political Office, Suhail Shaheen said that, "A Taliban delegation met with the head of mission of the Indian Embassy in Kabul and invited its team to help build and sustain infrastructure projects in the country".
India-funded projects will facilitate job opportunities, decrease poverty and unemployment, and boost development in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has also requested India to provide its citizens with scholarships for postgraduate and PhD degrees in the civil and urban development affairs, this will augment engineering capacity of the country.
The question that arises here is that why Taliban government has urged only India to invest in Afghanistan?
India had earlier launched several infrastructural projects in Afghanistan for 10-15 years which was estimated to be over 3 billion dollars.
These projects include- Salma dam, Zaranj- Delaram highway, Afghan Parliament house, restoration of Store palace, Indira Gandhi Children's hospital, and Shahtoot Dam.
There are 20 more projects which has been paused since Taliban took over Afghan administration. And Taliban government is now looking forward for India's involvement in revamping and providing developmental projects to Afghanistan.
But India on its part has not recognised the Taliban administration in Afghanistan yet.
However, contrary to this, India had provided humanitarian assistance consisting medical supplies to Afghanistan when more than 1000 people lost their lives to an earthquake of 5.7 magnitude.
So India earlier focused on only isolating Taliban until June 2022. But many countries have started engaging with Taliban. And to counter China and Pakistan, India had to opt for resuming diplomatic relations.
Nevertheless, India must not let its guard down as Pakistani terror groups like Jaish e Mohammad and Lashkar e Taiba have shifted bases to Afghanistan with help from the Taliban. This could become a matter of concern for India anytime.
