Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban, has voiced his disapproval of Pakistan's recent decision to expel Afghan refugees, describing the Pakistani government's treatment of Afghan immigrants as "unacceptable." Mujahid took to social media to urge Pakistan to reconsider its deportation decision.
Under Pakistan's new policy, Afghan migrants have been given a one-month notice to leave the country. The government announced that Afghans can remain in Pakistan only with a temporary residence card (PoR) and visa. Moreover, the Supreme Committee of the Government of Pakistan has warned of property confiscation for foreign nationals residing illegally after November 1. Legal action will also be taken against those who aid "illegal" foreign nationals in renting homes and finding jobs.
Mujahid's plea for patience in handling Afghan refugees comes as Pakistani news agencies report the deportation of over one million "illegal" immigrants, including Afghans with residence cards. The recent spike in Afghan migrant detentions by Pakistani police has raised tensions between the two nations, with Pakistan linking Afghan nationals to security issues, including suicide bombings in the country.
