Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian national team addressed the pre-match press conference ahead of the series against Sri Lanka.
India will play three T20Is and three ODIs against Sri Lanka from July 26-August 7. The team will leave for Sri Lanka on Monday, July 22.
Before leaving for the island nation, Gautam Gambhir along with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the press conference and spoke about a lot of things about Indian cricket and the series overall.
If reports are to be believed, Gautam Gambhir was kept in the loop when India's T20I and ODI squads were named for this tour. Gambhir had a big role to play in Suryakumar Yadav'a's appointment as the T20I skipper. He also had a big role to play in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli agreeing to play the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
'Going forward these things happen. Can't say right now that there are going to be 3 different teams. T20 will be in transition with world-class players retiring. The more players that can play both all formats the better,' says Gambhir.
'On the same page, if you have got players who can play all formats then great,' says Agarkar.
For now, Rohit Sharma will continue to lead India in ODIs. Suryakumar Yadav has been named the new T20I captain. Shuman Gill has been named the vice-captain for T20Is and ODIs for this series. Hardik Pandya is a part of the T20I series but rested for the ODIs. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav is a part of the ODI side and rested for the T20I series.
Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are the two keeper-batters selected for the T20I side. For the ODIS, KL Rahul returns into the team so does Shreyas Iyer. Pant and Rahul are the two keeper-batters in the side.
A few players have been included in both T20I and OSDI sides namely Shivam Duve, Riyan Parag, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel.
