Temporal triangular alopecia (TTA) also known as congenital triangular alopecia, is a rare form of hair loss that affects a small area on the scalp. Temporal triangular Alopecia is a relatively common condition of localised non-scarring hair loss.
It is usually present at birth or develops during early childhood. The condition is characterized by a triangular or oval-shaped patch of hair loss, typically located in the temporal region of the scalp, which is the area above the ears.
TTA may be related to autoimmune disorders, such as alopecia areata. In these cases, the body's immune system attacks hair follicles, leading to hair loss in specific areas of the scalp. TTA causes permanent hair loss in the affected area only, without spreading beyond it. Some individuals may experience slight hair regrowth, which is usually thinner and less pigmented than the surrounding hair.
Diagnosing temporal triangular alopecia typically involves identifying the characteristic pattern of hair loss. A scalp biopsy may be done in some cases to confirm the diagnosis.
