The bicycle kick: Brazilian duo of Leonidas and are Pele icons of it
also known as overhead kick or scissors kick, is an acrobatic strike where a player kicks an airborne ball rearward in mid-air.
Its origin is not certain but Brazilian duo of Leonidas and Pele are credited with popularizing the skill.
Bicycle kicks are usually done in two situations;
-A defensive bicycle kick happens when a player facing their side's goal uses the action to clear the ball in the opposite direction.
-An offensive bicycle kick is used when a player has their back to the opposing goal and uses the action to direct the ball to the opposition goal. This requires more concentration, as the player focuses on the target, as opposed to the defensive bicycle kick, which can be directed anywhere.
The bicycle kick is a complex skill and considered dangerous for inexperienced players. This is because there is a possibility of the player landing in an awkward position and getting injured.
Also, an opposition player could be harmed in the process and as such, it is recommended that a player performing the skill must have enough space to execute it.
The bicycle kick is usually held in high regard and has been described by FIFA as "football's most spectacular sight."
