He’s now sixteen years old and is five feet eight, the tallest in his family. he’s also an international-level golfer in his age category and is a TEd Talks speaker. This was a case that showed clearly that if gut flora are imbalanced, malabsorption is sure to kick in. (Note: this is an observational study; we didn’t have enough serology to document sensitivity, but the results were dramatic.)
The Case of the Constantly Tired lady;
The wife of a senior police official with an export business of her own came with complaints of low energy and high body fat. she was already perimenopausal at the age of forty-two. her bMI was not high (24), but she was slightly overweight.
Presenting Symptoms;
• Felt as if she had the energy of an elderly person
• recent hair fall
• polyp recently removed from her uterus because of heavy bleeding
Her bloodwork showed low iron and ferritin levels. she was already taking a vitamin d supplement. she also had elevated thyroid antibodies. Her celiac markers were negative. We modified her grains, corrected her nutritional deficiencies and built up her gut flora; she also decided to go vegan on her own.
Within weeks, she began losing weight (she lost 6 kg) and her bMI came down to 21. her skin was soon glowing, and she reported feeling clear in the head and all perked up. her menses were also more regulated. she said, ‘at the age of forty-six, by changing your food, you can change your life, your mood and look like a happy child.’
The lady Who Could hardly Walk
Mrs J., an architect, fifty-nine years old, was hardly able to walk on her own when she came to us. she needed someone to support her; she’d been asked to undergo knee surgery. she was overweight (115 kg, five feet five), with a bMI of 48. she’d had a hysterectomy eleven years earlier; then her ovaries were removed and she began gaining weight. she was also on medication for high blood pressure and diabetes.
