Eventually, she took the call herself and reduced her insulin. Within three months of dietary change, she lost 10 kg and was down from taking 100 units—to NIl. her diabetes had been reversed as well as the kidney malfunctioning. over the course of a year, she lost a grand total of 35 kg. of course, the bariatric surgery was not needed!
A Case of PCOD
Ms s., thirty-nine, had been diagnosed with pCod two years before she consulted me. she was on medication for the condition. When she came in 2018, her weight was 63 kg, she stood at five feet three and her bMI was 23. she was not obese, but her waist measurement was 35.5 inches, which was higher than normal.
Presenting Symptoms
• pCod: her cysts were not improving, despite medication and her periods were very irregular
• had a thyroid nodule
• severe acidity; was on antacids
blood tests showed low haemoglobin (9.3) and abnormal cholesterol levels. We changed her to a no- gluten, low-dairy diet. she was vegetarian, so we did not remove dairy products altogether but encouraged her not to have them. In less than a month, she reported feeling much better and had a normal period. When she went for a scan, her cysts had disappeared, as had her thyroid nodule. her haemoglobin went up to 12.7, with just homoeopathic iron added. soon, she also lost some weight and her waist came down to 32.5 inches. The interesting thing about her case was that by elimination of inflammatory grains and supplementation, it wasn’t just her symptoms that had resolved but the actual cysts had vanished, as seen on a sonography. since then, she has followed the modified grain diet, staying gluten-free and dairy free. she continues to follow up with us.
What was even more gratifying was that when she visited her physician for a routine check-up, he tried to locate her thyroid nodule and this too had vanished— to the utter surprise of the doctor!
